DATA PROTECTION (JERSEY) LAW 2018 (the “Law”)

Tesson Chapel is registered with Jersey’s Information Commissioner under the above Law. The Law relates to personal data which means “any data relating to a data subject” and a data subject means any “natural, living person”.  Thus, any data held by Tesson Chapel relating to any individual is now subject to the Law.

Protecting personal data is something Tesson Chapel takes seriously. This notice outlines how we collect, store and process such personal information. The policy applies to Tesson Chapel and its Trustees as well as to those who serve or are employed there – all referred to below as ‘Tesson Chapel’, or ‘we’.

Under Jersey Law Tesson Chapel is permitted to process personal data “in the course of its legitimate activities” as long as that processing “(a) is carried out with appropriate safeguards for the rights and freedoms of data subjects, (b) relates only to individuals who are members [of Tesson Chapel} or have regular contact with it in connection with its purposes, and (c) does not involve disclosure of the personal data to a third party without the consent of the data subject.”

We endorse and adhere to the seven key principles which must be satisfied in relation to obtaining, handling, processing, transportation and storage of personal data.

In summary: -
Data shall be processed lawfully, fairly and transparently
Data shall be collected for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes
Data shall be adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary in relation to the purposes for which they are processed
Data shall be accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date
Data shall be kept for only as long as necessary
Data shall be processed and kept securely

We treat all personal information as private and confidential and will not disclose any data outside of Tesson Chapel.  However, there are four legitimate exceptional circumstances to the above non-disclosure that are permitted by Law: -
Where we are legally compelled to do so.
Where there is a duty to the public to disclose.
Where disclosure is required to protect the individual’s own interest.
Where disclosure is made at the request or with the consent of the individual.

We will use personal data for three main purposes: -
The day-to-day administration of Tesson Chapel: e.g. pastoral care and oversight, preparation of rotas, maintaining financial records of giving for audit and tax purposes.
Contacting individuals to keep them informed of relevant activities and events.

All individuals who are the subject of personal data held by Tesson Chapel are entitled, amongst other rights, to ask what information we hold about them and why and to ask for rectification or erasure of data.
